The Cinque Terre & Portovenere Tour

Portovenere, on the Italian Rivera and located in close proximity to the famous Cinque Terre, is known for its picturesque harbor.

The Cinque Terre (Riomaggiore – Manarola – Corniglia – Vernazza – Monterosso)
These are the five villages that make up the beautiful Cinque Terre. It is not possible to visit the five villages by car as there is no direct road that connects them and for this reason, the villages have don’t have a large amount of vehicle traffic and have remained relatively “private” for so long.

In order to enjoy this tour, besides using our vehicle, it will also be necessary to use the train and/or boat services and therefore this itinerary is not suitable for people with limited mobility.

The train runs all year round but the boat is subject to weather conditions.

At Portovenere, the first stop, your driver will leave you but before dropping you off, he will give you all the information you will need in order to visit the towns, including help with tickets, timetables, and maps.

At the end of the day, your driver will be waiting for you at the pre-arranged meeting point (usually Monterosso, the last village furthest north) to drive you back to your ship.

Keep in mind that your driver will always remain at your disposal in the area should you need assistance or wish to make any changes with your meeting point or time.

Chianti Wine Tour

A trip to Chianti represents a unique and unforgettable experience for everyone involved. In addition to fabulous vineyards and olive groves, famous internationally for their wine and olive oil; there are abbeys, villas, castles, wineries, and restaurants to visit and enjoy.

Following the "Wine Road" between vineyards and olive trees, we'll reach Greve in Chianti, the small village, named after the nearby river, expanded considerably during the 14th & 15th centuries, where we find a monument to Giovanni da Verrazzano, the explorer who discovered the New York Harbor. We see Piazza Matteotti with its porticoes, the Santa Croce church, the San Francesco convent and a series of typical, tiny, local shops and wine-cellars. One of the most famous is the butcher shop Falorni, which has been located in the piazza for 500 years.

You can have free samples of many of their locally produced products. In Greve, there is also the enoteca "Le Cantine" where you will be able to taste not only more than 100 different wines but also olive oil, vin santo and grappa, all produced in the Chianti area - a showcase for the region's wines. If time permitting, we will also stop at the Bonollo grappa distillery and at Montefioralle, a small village above Greve, which still preserves its medieval architectural flavor.

After Greve, we depart for the magnificent Castle of Verrazzano, situated on top of a hill between Florence and Siena, in the heart of the Chianti Classico wine production area. It was originally an Etruscan settlement, then a Roman one, until becoming the property of the Verrazzano family in the 12th century. Giovanni da Verrazzano, who discovered the bay of New York and the main part of the East Coast of America (the suspended bridge in New York with the longest span in the world bears his name) was born here in 1485.

At the Castle, guided tours can be booked to see the gardens, the centuries-old aging cellars and, as a curiosity, the wild boars which breed naturally in the surrounding woods. Together with the world-famous wines, all the various products of the farm can be tasted, including olive oil, salted meats, wild boar sausage and the area's other typical specialties (light lunch).

Siena and San Gimignano Tour

After an hour and half driving through the Tuscan countryside you will reach San Gimignano. San Gimignano rises on a hill (334m high) dominating the Elsa Valley with its towers dating back to the 11th century. Its cultural and natural patrimonies have been recognized by UNESCO, but even more impressive is the medieval skyline made up of towers and the views from above and below them.

During the transfer San Gimignano-Siena you will stop in Monteriggioni, without doubt one of the most classical and best known Italian walled town. The town was built by the Senesis in the years 1213-1219 on a hillock overlooking the Cassia Road. Its ideal position allowed controlling the Elsa and the Staggia Valleys in direction of Florence, the historic enemy of Siena. Here you'll have the chance to taste a true Tuscany meal in a typical trattoria. After lunch, we'll proceed to Siena, where you'll immediately notice an ancient and mysterious atmosphere floating through the little, narrow streets and squares. You'll feel as if you've stepped backwards in time.

Draped on its three hills, Siena is a very beautiful city to visit, a flamboyant medieval ensemble of places and towers cast in warm, brown, Siena-coloured bricks. It's soaring skyline is it's pride, dominated by the gothic cathedral (Duomo is one of the most spectacular in Italy and one of the few to have been built south of the Alps in full gothic style) and the taut needle of the Torre del Mangia and yet the shell shaped Piazza del Campo, probably captures the most attention and fame.
